Support for Social Cohesion is a programmed to promote stronger, peaceful, and more cohesive communities in all areas of Iraq. Built on integrating the success and lessons learned from social cohesion projects and interventions implemented, the programmed takes a multi-faceted approach to address institutional frameworks, local mechanisms, capacity development, inter-group and state-citizen relations, and conflict-sensitive responses.

Activities aim to facilitate locally driven solutions and support the integration of conflict sensitivity and social cohesion into Iraq’s governance, stabilization, and development agendas.

The Integrated Reconciliation Project supports a national agenda for long-term reconciliation by creating infrastructure to promote peace within communities, focusing on the most vulnerable communities and minorities in Iraq. The creates and strengthens community social cohesion mechanisms, providing socio-economic support services, reinforcing civil society capacities, and bolstering national systems to effectively coordinate and plan social cohesion and reconciliation efforts in Iraq.

Our Activities

We build peaceful, resilient communities and protect vulnerable children through local dialogues, economic grants, specialized mental health support, and legal aid.

Our expertise in Social Cohesion

We foster peace and resilience by establishing local peace committees, providing $3,000 livelihood grants, offering specialized mental health support, and delivering vocational training for conflict-affected groups.

Community Dialogue

Developed mechanisms for community consultation and dialogue, including forming Local Peace Committees.

Establishment Peace Groups

Establishment “Youth for Peace” Groups and “Women for Peace” groups, for implement initiatives.

Trained social workers

Trained social workers to provide psychosocial support and treatment for victims of violence in conflict settings.

Roundtable Discussions

Held roundtable discussions with youth and social media influencers to discuss digital campaigns advocating for reconciliation and peaceful coexistence.

Livelihoods for Households

Support for livelihoods for households, each farmer or female-headed household or traditional artisan will get $3,000 in small business.

Services, Counseling and Awareness

Providing services, counseling and awareness sessions about coexistence with others and access to different services and protection risks and help request services through a helpline for women, men, children and youth.

Vocational Training

Vocational training for women and adolescents affected by armed conflict and received small grants

Child Protection for Stabilization

The child protection activities target the most vulnerable children and their families/caregivers based on standard vulnerability criteria. In addition to the children, they focus on vulnerable children affected by armed conflict and recent returnee children from the Al Howl camp in Northeast Syria.

Case Management

Integrated case management services for children and adolescents affected by armed conflict are received.

Providing focused mental health services (IASC Level 3/4) to children affected by armed conflict.

Non-Formal Education

Providing formal and non-formal education opportunities as part of the social reintegration of children affected by armed conflict.

MHPSS

Providing the MHPSS specialized individual services to children and adolescents.

Training of social workers

Training of social workers, community police staff, and the Women and Youth Affairs Department on child protection approaches, protection from sexual exploitation and abuse, and case management

Community Forums

Training women and men in community forums on child protection approaches and protection from sexual exploitation and abuse.

Legal Counseling

Providing legal counseling and representation services to children and adolescents.
